Welcome ulderbingk !

Does WinFlip fail to start any time you try to run it or does it fail only on system start-up ?

Thank you for reporting.

Hi all,

I am also receiving this error form the very first times. Most of times it will display this error when I am playing a game.

Hi minraj,

Hi all,

I am also receiving this error form the very first times. Most of times it will display this error when I am playing a game.

when playing a video game, you may want to do one of these ways:

- set the same resolution for your desktop and for the video game ( e.g. )
- when a game's resolution differs from the desktop's, do not flip as long as the game is running
- exit WinFlip before starting a video game

hi to you all in this community! Smiley

i got the same problem: "direct3d failed to initialize" - everytime windows starts.  Angry when i start the wflip manually, the program works just fine - i just can't get it to work at startup.
i tried the dxdiag with direct3d & directdraw test - ok!
i checked the nvidia graphics driver - ok and uptodate!
i tried using ram instead of graphics memory - same error!

how can i get it to work? Huh it's such a great tool.
by the way - the first week of using it i had no errors or probs - it just worked from the systemstart on... Cry

thanx & good luck to you all,
tommes

Found a quick fix:
Go to the winflip.ini file...

Look for the line:

Quality2

In notepad/text, change the 2 to a 0 (zero) and re-save.

Re-start winflip.exe, runs ok.

DirectX 9c was the recommendation from winflip error comment but 9c is not recognized by XP SP3 on AcerOne ZG5 from Walmart.  P.S. ZG5 has a standard kybd with a nice rt-shift key, unlike previous versions with teenie rt-shft key...

PPS
Good luck finding where winflip installs on your computer... hint, it's not \program files...  beats me where...
I had to get winflip.ini from my instal folder and execute winflip.exe from there...

Of course, when you reboot, your installed version of winflip.ini takes over again.

Nice one, easadude!

Please note that WinFlip is not published with an installer and therefore the files will be wherever you download them to, assuming you download from stylekings.de or tokyodownstairs.blogspot.com.

Hi easadude Smiley

Nice tips easadude.

Amos is right.
I know there are some of installer versions of WinFlip. but all of them are not official version.
pls ensure the file is O.K. or not before use them.

Cheers,
Koji

Could you clarify on this :

...but 9c is not recognized by XP SP3 on AcerOne ZG5 from Walmart.

How so ?  Is this due to AcerOne ZG5's vga system ?

Hi philr85, welcome to the messageboard !   Smiley

Unfortunately 3dfx voodoo4 pci card is incompatible with WinFlip.

That "winflip initilizes and the screen loses everything but the desktop" means WinFlip gets stuck at Direct3D initialization. You could try waiting.

Also, try easadude's method.

I do not know much about ATI 3D Rage 2, of its technical specifications, if it works then great, sorry if it doesn't. WinFlip's code deploys DirectX 9 (+) and the vga hardware acceleration feature. WinFlip is incompatible with certain video cards of 2001 and earlier. Just the way WinFlip was programmed.

General reccomendations to avoid Direct3D failure:

1. VGA system must be pretty much up-to-date, to support DirectX 9c and HAL
2. VGA drivers and DirectX 9 (Summer 2004 +) properly installed or updated
3. Correct start WinFlip, while Direct3D is not being in use by other software
