What connection has Bahrain with WinFlip? You went through all the trouble registering to the forum just to write advertisement with not working links... I don't understand people sometimes.

You clicked on the link? Be careful, you don't know what's waiting to download on the other end.

I'm now working in Linux most of the time, so there is a little possibility of getting a virus or some spyware. Anyway I checked the url whether it is safe. Thanks to god and my firewall/antivirus/antispyware last time I got a virus was back in 1997. Never surf the net unprotected I just hope there won't be more posts like these.

Currently Kubuntu Hardy 8.04. I tried SuSE, Mandriva and Fedora in the past althought I don't know what versions they were. Linux alway had a hard time on my PC I alway had a problem with it so everytime I returned back to Windows XP. Now that the installation of (K)(X)Ubuntu is a matter of a few minutes with Wubi installer, I don't have to play with my disk partitions and NTFS read/write is working without problems I decided to give it a try once again and I'm very satisfied. Linux sure improved a lot.

I used Ubuntu for a year or so, from 6.04 to 8.04, but when I got round to having to use NDisWrapper once again to make my wireless card work, I decided it simply wasn't worth the effort, since I already had a legit, working XP CD. I've got Ubuntu running on a virtual machine now (using Innotek's VirtualBox) but unfortunately 3D acceleration isn't supported so I can't show off Compiz Fusion. I still miss wobbly windows

Yeah that's the biggest problem of Linux and one of the reason why I always keep Windows XP. Linux still has a problem with detecting and properly handling hardware. CompizFusion is really cool even if it sometimes crash X-server with Kopete I miss some of its features in windows XP but there is no way i will ever move to Vista.

I'm keen on seeing how Windows 7 turns out, although it looks like they're not focusing anywhere near as much on the MinWin project - that is, making it faster, lighter and smaller - and instead taking the Vista route again and trying to lure people in with fancy effects that can be easily imitated in XP (indexed search with Windows Desktop Search or Google Desktop, 3D flipping with WinFlip, and so on).
Despite my dislike of the incredibly greedy mindset, I have to say, Apple's Macs are becoming more and more attractive - reliable, high-spec machines that do what you want as standard at a respectable speed.
Microsoft are starting to slip, and I'm not sure whether they'll realise what they're doing wrong in time.

Yeah you got a point. We'll see how it turns out in the future. The ideas used in Vista are not all bad but most of them were terribly implemented. It's development looks rushed and sometimes it acts more like a beta than a operation system. Now if you stop tons of background services eating up resources and tweak some stuff in their XML configs it "can" be a worthy successor of XP, but little evolution isn't worth the money or effort for me. Microsoft is boasting with Vista share on the market, but only a small percentage of users actually bought Vista and upgraded from XP. Most of them got Vista preinstalled on their PC's without having a choice (now Vista on a Celeron notebook with 512RAM, very funny "Vista Experience"). Now they say Windows7 will be ready by the next year? They should know that the Vista-like concept is bad and that people would rather like quick system with user-friendly interface that is easily configurable rather than sluggish machinery with tons of graphical effects for which you have to buy a new PC. The only one advantage of Vista are DX10, however not many games are using it extensively and it is proved that DX9 can do about the same like DX10 with better performance, althought DX10 is more user friendly for developers. Now if Windows7 will be the same fault as Vista I think many people will use different systems (Linux,MacOS, or stick with by that time a few years unsupported XP). And I am actually surprised how much Linux evolved and how it became more user-friendly in a last few years. Macs are cool looking machines, well designed but damn expensive. I like more the freedom of choice so I can blast open my PC change components as I wish. Since all that Iphone racket I don't know what to think about Apple.

It's true with Apple that they love creating hype - and the fanboys love the hype even more - but their stuff is actually (with multiple exceptions) pretty reliable. The iPhone is a bit of a gimmick, more flash than operability, but it's not awful.
I am told - and I haven't really checked this out myself - that if you took any current Apple PC and set up a custom machine running Windows with the same specs (from somewhere like Dell, for example), it'd cost you less to buy the Apple. I might try it sometime soon, although it's hard to match specs since, as you say, Apple avoid standardisation in hardware somewhat for they sake of keeping their ecosystem as closed as possible.
I'm not sure which operating system I'll end up preferring - at the moment, I'm floating, not being particularly happy with any OS because they all have huge shortfalls. If I'm honest - and I never thought I'd say this - I'm actually very comfortable with Windows XP. I think if they worked on neccesary things, as I've said - speed, ease of use, etc - and perhaps making the shell more customisable, they would be on to a winner.

By the way, those who have experience with Linux, what window manager you prefer or like KDE, KDE4, Gnome, or XFCE (or other)?
