Why doesn't Winflip run automatically on window start-up?
I'm bored to run the program by myself, or am i doing something wrong?

hi there and welcome to the board Cheesy

good suggestion!
at the moment winflip is running completely portable (it does not store any information to the windows registry and uses a file instead)
Getting it started with Windows could only be done by writing some keys to the registry but anyway i think this feature will be added in one of the future releases Smiley
maybe even in the next one (koji has to respond to this)!

until then you could simply place a shortcut of it in the autorun folder Cheesy

THX for posting (keep doing this Tongue)

Hi Pkman
Welcome to WinFlip message board!

Thanks for the question about WinFlip.

Unfortunately, WinFlip doesn't have the function start automatically on Windows start-up Cry
Therefore, If you want to start WinFlip on Windows start-up, You
should put the shortcut of WinFlip into the startup folder by yourself.

It's true. I'm going to add this kind of function.(Not in next version)
But I don't want to add the function to set something values to the registry Tongue
It should be just put the shortcut of WinFlip into the startup folder Smiley

Regards

The easiest way to do this is:

1) Open your WinFlip folder, right-click WinFlip.exe and select 'Create Shortcut'
2) Go to Start >> All Programs, right-click on Startup (or, if you want all users of your computer to have it run on boot, select 'Open All Users')
3) Move the shortcut into the Startup folder by lcicking and dragging, or copying and pasting (I'm sure you can manage that!).
4) On next boot, it should automatically run. Enjoy Wink

Roll Eyes As some programs do, when "Run at windows start" is checked, WinFlip could SIMPLY write its shortcut to the start-up folder. I mean that Koji could implement this feature without/before writing the installer and without doing registry entries.

Look at TopDesk : they let users have it portable, optionally. So should do winflip if installer is written.

And thank author for keeping all the program's settings within the program's working folder ! Please do not ever move them to other folders. Thanks.

On this post, my idea:

1. WinFlip starts
2. Checks the start-up folder, if no shortcut found there then gets "...at start" unchecked, if shortcut exists then gets the option checked.

So far, I have been doing as Amos has suggested here.

Problems with instalers happen, so there's fear of getting bug

I agree, Roman, a checkbox within the options would be a better solution.

Hmmm i can see (comming from programmer background myself), why Koji and Khan are not putting the startup function in WinFlip right now. As Koji said he does not want the program to be injecting too much stuff in the registry, and this is a good approach since its really a small detail that the end user can fix themselves. As Khan said lets give Koji the chance to put the more important functions into the program first, auto-startup is just an aesthetic.

And if you want to make the program auto run via the registry do as follows:-

1. Press <window key> + R [this will load your Run Command Input]

2. Enter "regedit" [Without the quotation marks, this will load your resgitry editor]

3. Navigate to the following Reg-Key
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

4. You should see some stuff in the right side of the window, these are keys for other apps and progs that load when your OS loads up past login.

5. In that same area, <right click>, and select New > String Value. You going to have a new Reg String that you need to name. Name it WinFlip and press enter.

6. Now <right click>, your WinFlip Reg string and choose MODIFY.. This will bring up a window with an emtpy dialog box titled VALUE. You ned to put the absolute path that winflip is stored in, in my case i have a folder in C:Program Files called WinFlip, and the program is WinFlip.exe so the Value is C:\Program Files\WinFlip\WinFlip.exe

7. Press Enter and Exit. Restart your comp to test it. Once you log in you will see that WinFlip auto loads.

Real simple solution, besides this is what a checkbox does for you, its a good temp fix while Koji and the group work on putting it in in later versions.
